Good schools and transport links are said to be drawing in buyers.

Estate agents have shared the in-demand Berkshire postcodes that are the most popular with house hunters.

Good schools, proximity to Heathrow Airport and excellent transport links – particularly the arrival of Crossrail – are said to be among the draws for couples and families alike.

Last year UK property sales were at their highest levels since 2007, with the stamp duty holiday and the race for more space after the pandemic attracting buyers looking for a new home.

Wera Mettes and Giles Mitchell, both local property partners for Purple Bricks, have shared the fives postcodes that are most popular with people looking for a new home in Berkshire, including SL6 around Maidenhead, RG1 in Central Reading where hundreds of new flats are being built. The West Berkshire postcodes of RG31, which includes Burghfield, Calcot and Tilehurst and RG14, which includes Newbury and surrounding villages, are also proving very popular with house hunters. The Bracknell postcode of RG12 for Easthampstead and Popeswood also makes the list.

This postcode area around Maidenhead is packing in couples for its transport links and is also popular with families for its highly-rated schools.

Furze Platt, Holyport, Pinkneys Green and Paley Street all fall within this sought after area.

The picturesque postcode also includes the Michelin-star restaurant hotspot of Bray, Cookham, Hurley which has been named on of the country best villages and White Waltham.

Wera Mettes said: “A lot of couples are looking in SL6 as Maidenhead and Taplow offer two Crossrail Stations, and it is very well positioned for the A404, M4, M40 and M25. It’s also close to Heathrow Airport.

“Many people specifically move to the area because of the number of schools rated excellent or good by Ofsted.”

RG31 and RG14

Giles Mitchell says the two postcodes, covering the residential areas of Calcot, Burghfield, the west of Tilehurst and Newbury, are both popular areas with families.

RG14 also includes the villages of Greenham, Donnington, Shaw, Speen and Wash Common.

The local job market and type of property are both an attraction for people looking to buy here. Calcot, Burghfield and Tilehurst all have good access to the M4 and are not too far from Reading town centre.
