Reading house prices are around 40 per cent higher than the UK national average, according to new data from Zoopla.
The average cost of purchasing one square foot of property in Reading is currently £396, whilst the UK national average is only £282.
Data from July shows that the average price of a house in the Reading area is now £313,400, which is a rise of 3.2 per cent compared to summer 2020.
Prices are even higher in Wokingham, where the average cost of a property per square ft is £379.
However, London still remains the most expensive place to buy a house, where the average cost of a property per square ft is £429.
Other areas of the UK are a lot cheaper with the average cost of one square ft in Wales being £199 and the average cost in Burnley, the cheapest town in the UK, being just £123.
Data shows that the cost of the space needed to fit a standard double bed for a new home in Wokingham would be around £13,400, whilst in Reading and West Berkshire, the cost is slightly cheaper, with a double bedroom costing residents £11,824 and £11,825 respectively.
The most expensive place to rent in the UK is London and the floor space required in a home for a double bed would cost £46,550 in Kensington and Chelsea, which almost matches the average price of a house in London in 1986, according to the land registry website.
